QUOTE FROM THE HEART
In each issue of Heartsong, I will open with a
quote, poem or lyric, which I have found
inspiring and uplifting. I hope they will
inspire you, as well! Today, here's a very
insightful quote for you to ponder. What do you
think?
"You can understand and relate to most people
better if you look at them -- no matter how old
or impressive they may be -- as if they are
children. For most of us never really grow up or
mature all that much -- we simply grow taller.
O, to be sure, we laugh less and play less and
wear uncomfortable disguises like adults, but
beneath the costume is the child we always are,
whose needs are simple, whose daily life is
still best described by fairy tales."
~Leo Rosten
A NOTE FROM KIM
Welcome to today's issue of Heartsong! The
temperatures are cooling down at last here in
western North Carolina. It's amazing that
September, one of my favorite months of the
year, is already here! I find myself asking,
"Where does the time go?" Let's do our best to
enjoy each day.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended my
teleclass, "Let Go and Grow." It was a great
experience, and I really enjoyed sharing the
material with everyone. If you weren't able to
make it, don't worry! I'm in the process of
turning the class into an information packed
product, complete with audio exercises and
meditations, a comprehensive workbook and more,
to assist you in releasing your fear and
anxieties and obtaining greater spiritual growth
and transformation in your life. I'll send more
details on this exciting product as they become
available!
In the meantime, if I can assist you, either
through transformational, compassionate
coaching, your very own customized meditation
product, or something else, please don't
hesitate to call or email me. I'd love to assist
you in the best way I can.
Until next time, enjoy the rest of today's
issue, and I send you all my love!
Blessings,
Kim
FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE, WITH LOVE
A lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope in a
violent storm. A lighthouse sheds light on our
worries and troubles, and brings us joy and
peace. Therefore, in each Heartsong issue, I
will include an article, which will help to
guide you through the dark and troubled times,
or lighten and brighten your heart and life in a
special way. In today's Lighthouse article, I
reflect on the amazing wisdom that we can
discover when we pay attention to the very
youngest loved ones in our lives.
Abiding Miracles: The Wisdom of Children
Though not yet a mom myself, it rarely fails to
amaze me just how perceptive, wise and
full-hearted children can be. I'm primarily
speaking of children who are younger than school
age. These wonderful kids play with abandon,
move and and grow in abandon, and love in
abandon. They rarely judge, and just as rarely
fail to share what's in their minds and hearts
with others. I find their openness so utterly
refreshing, and I think that those of us who are
adults could do well to learn from the openness,
honesty and love shown by these little teachers.
It's easy to become jaded by the violence,
oppression and anger that can be found in every
corner of our world. From the war raging in Iraq
to the hunger and poverty of South Africa and
the unhappiness and "isms" to be found in our
own cities, it's difficult to escape from it
without becoming angry and disgusted. And yet,
I'll never forget watching a segment on TV once
in which three children living in the heart of
Jerusalem were interviewed. One child was
Jewish, one Christian and the third Muslim.
Despite the turmoil of their own country, each
child, no matter her religion, remained open to
freely loving those of other religious beliefs.
When asked how they would choose to bring peace
to the world, each stated that they'd laugh and
play together in joy, and refuse to have
conflict with one another's personal belief
systems. Each also added that they could all
share and learn from one another's personal ways
of believing and thinking about spirituality,
God and the world at large.
The adult in me thought "Oh, this is beautiful
but totally idealistic, and could never happen,
of course." However, there was a part of me,
which was profoundly touched and moved by the
deep compassion of these children. A part of my
soul found itself whispering, "Why can't we
enact this wisdom in our world?"
As I thought about it further, I realized that
in some ways, it's easier to tell ourselves that
we can't change anything, that we're only one
person, that it simply isn't possible. And yet,
children have not yet forgotten the power of
miracles, the wonderful of openness and the
transformational nature of friendship and love.
They haven't forgotten these things because they
live them every single day within their
innermost hearts.
It is my belief that somewhere, nestled within
each adult heart is the hope, wonder and
eagerness of the children we once were.
Somewhere tucked away in the deepest recesses of
our beings we still hold the total belief in the
impossible, the miraculous and the power of love
over all things. Will you join me in trying to
recapture these inordinate truths that are so
gracefully encapsulated in the words, thoughts
and deeds of so many of the world's beloved
children?
Let's try to remember, when we're feeling
frustrated, hopeless or depressed about the
world's circumstances, that we can make a
difference... we can remember to find the
miracles that lie upon our paths... to laugh as
much as we can, to find joy in life, and to love
with openness and compassion. Let's take a
lesson from the children of our world, and
recognize that, like them, with some love and
some effort, we can learn to work and play in
harmony with one another.KIM RECOMMENDS
For this month's Kim Recommends column, I want
to recommend a wonderful musician who I've
recently discovered. Her name is Sharon Drury,
and she's a pianist and composer whose original
instrumental music is truly inspirational.
Sharon's CD's promote relaxation, relieve stress
and are very healing and soothing. In addition
to her wonderful original CD's, Sharon also has
created two CD's of Christmas music, a CD of
hymns and a CD of Celtic music. And since I'm
getting to know her, I can promise you she's
just as wonderful as her music is.
If you need to relieve stress, gain relaxation
or bring some peace into your life (and who
doesn't?), then definitely check out Sharon
Drury's music. She has some wonderful discounts
available on her site. Please visit Sharon at:

And if you like what you hear, please purchase
some of Sharon's music for yourself and your
loved ones.
HOPE AND HEALING
All of us need to take the time to be gentle
with ourselves. Therefore, in the first issue of
each month, Heartsong will include tips with
which you can nurture, pamper and transform all
aspects of your life. Enjoy!
Need a Hug?
I recently watched a story on Good Morning
America (a large national morning news broadcast
here in the US), in which a recent high school
graduate named Jordan, decided to walk the
streets of New York City and ask people for a
hug. I found myself wondering, "If a total
stranger walked up to me on the street and asked
me for a hug, would I give them one?" I
certainly hope I would! Apparently quite a few
New Yorkers felt the same way, because of the
people Jordan asked if they would give her a
hug, 43 declined and 42 hugged her.
Hugs can be wonderful gifts in many situations.
They can give us encouragement, bolster our
confidence and make us feel good in general.
I'll never forget meeting my first college
roommate for the first time, and instead of
shaking hands, we gave one another a warm hug.
Cheesy as it may sound, I think it was an
awesome way to begin our relationship. We remain
good friends to this day.
Who do you know who could use a hug today? If
you know someone who could, why not offer him or
her one? You just might make their day, and make
yourself feel great, in the process.
Here's a sweet little poem I discovered about
hugs.:

Big hugs to you!
PRAYER FROM THE HEART
Each issue of Heartsong will feature a prayer,
either from my own heart, one which I hold dear
in my own life, or one suggested to me by
others. I hope they will speak to your spirit,
as well.
A Prayer For The Children
We pray for the children
who sneak popsicles before supper,
who erase holes in math workbooks,
who can never find their shoes.
And we pray for those
who stare at photographers from behind barbed
wire,
who can't bound down the street in a new pair of
sneakers,
who never "counted potatoes,"
who are born in places where we wouldn't be
caught dead,
who never go to the circus,
who live in an X-rated world.
We pray for the children
who bring us sticky kisses and fistfuls of
dandelions,
who hug us in a hurry and forget their lunch
money.
And we pray for those
who never get dessert,
who have no safe blanket to drag behind them,
who watch their parents watch them die,
who can't find bread to steal,
who don't have rooms to clean up,
whose pictures aren't on anybody's dresser,
whose monsters are real.
We Pray for the Children
who spend their allowance before Tuesday,
who throw tantrums in the grocery store and pick
at their food,
who like ghost stories,
who shove dirty clothes under the bed,
who never rinse out the tub,
who get visits from the tooth fairy,
who don't like to be kissed in front of the
carpool,
who squirm in church and scream in the phone,
whose tears we sometimes laugh at and
whose smiles can make us cry.
And we pray for those
Whose nightmares come in the daytime,
Who will eat anything
Who have never seen dentist,
Who aren't spoiled by anybody,
Who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to
sleep,
Who live and move, but have no being
We pray for the children
Who want to be carried and for those who must,
Who we never give up on and for those who don't
get a second chance.
We pray for those we smother and for those who
will grab the hand of
anybody kind enough to offer it.

HEARTSONG REFLECTION
Until our next issue, try looking at life with
the wonderful of a child, and see what amazing
changes of perspective happen for you. And if
you find that you need a hug, ask for one, or
share one with someone else. You'll feel better
because of it!
Love, Light and Blessings,
Kim
