FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE, WITH LOVE
A lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope in a violent storm. A lighthouse sheds light on our worries and troubles, and brings us joy and peace. Therefore, in each Heartsong issue, I will include an article, which will help to guide you through the dark and troubled times, or lighten and brighten your heart and life in a special way. In today's Lighthouse article, we're discussing the power that is to be had by the act of persistence.

The Power of Persistence, Or, A Call to Action

Do you remember the story of the little engine that could? The little engine really didn't think it had enough power to reach the top of the mountain, but kept saying to itself over and over on it's journey upward, "I think I can, I think I can." As it neared the top of the mountain, feeling more and more tired by the second, the little engine changed it's mantra to "I know I can, I know I can!" Finally, it reached its goal and crested the top of the mountain, triumphant in it's success.

What was the secret weapon that helped the little engine to reach that mountaintop? What was the key ingredient to the little engine's succeeding in what it thought was a nearly impossible goal? The answer is the power of persistence.

How many times have you started a project and then given up because it was just too hard, too complex or too frustrating? How many times have you allowed a project to fall through because it demanded too much of your time or energy? I know that I've been guilty of this many times. Looking back, I now wonder how many of those projects that I gave up on or simply quit working on, would have been successful had I just persisted a little longer?

Persistence is an incredibly powerful tool that can sky rocket our success in anything that we're attempting to achieve. Think about where we'd be without the convenience of the light bulb? Thomas Edison attempted thousands of experiments before perfecting that wonderful creation. Think of how different our lives would be if he'd chosen to simply give up on that goal and go off to do something else.

Let me share an example from my own life. I use to complain about the amount of website traffic I was receiving. "Why am I getting so little traffic?", I would complain. After a while, I grew tired of complaining and decided to rectify the situation. I began marketing more persistently and consistently, and within a week, my traffic had doubled! This was an important lesson that taught me about the importance of persistence in my marketing, and how quickly things could turn around in a positive manner when I was taking consistent and persistent action from my heart.

Do you have a goal, dream or project that you'd like to take more persistent action towards achieving or completing? Here are three tips on becoming more persistent in achieving your goals, starting now.

First, upon awakening each morning, take a few moments to relax and count your blessings. What and who are you grateful for? What people or circumstances in your life make your heart and soul sing? What in your life brings you the most joy and contentment? Really feel your love, joy and gratitude coursing out from your heart. Spend these moments in prayerful or reflective gratitude for all the wonderful people, things and circumstances in your life. Then, when you feel totally serene and peaceful, ask yourself what three actions you can take on this day to works towards the achievement of your dreams and goals. It doesn't matter if these are big actions or smaller action steps... when you're at peace with yourself, in a state of gratitude and filled with joyful energy from remembering all your blessings, it will be far easier to clarify three actions you can take each day to bring your goals and dreams closer and closer to fruition.

Second, remember that "easy does it." I don't mean to say that achieving your dreams and goals will always be effortless, but if you remain persistent in achieving your three action steps daily, even if these are baby action steps, you'll fall asleep each night closer to achieving your goals than you were the night before! So don't be too hard on yourself... sometimes, slow and steady progress really does win the race! How exciting is that?

Finally, remember your desired outcome, and enjoy the journey towards achieving it! Imagine how excited and fulfilled you'll be when you reach your goal! When you feel tired, discouraged or like throwing up your hands in defeat, remember how awesome you'll feel when your goal or dream is in your grasp! I like to tell myself, "With grit and with God, all things are possible." Enjoy the journey towards reaching your goal... allow any challenges to further strengthen your resolve and determination to succeed. Be at peace, knowing that with persistent daily action and lots of gratitude for what you already have, your life's success is assured.

I wish you great joy on your persistent journey forward! Remember, if you'd like some extra help in staying persistent and reaching your goals, I'm available for compassionate, personalized coaching to support you on your journey. I wish you tons of love and success!

KIM RECOMMENDS
June's recommendation is one of my favorite spoken word albums of all time. It's called A Healing Angel, and is performed by actress Roma Downey, best known for her role as Monica on the long-running inspirational show, Touched By An Angel. This album includes beautiful spoken word versions of songs like "Be Thou My Vision", "An Irish Blessing", and many others. Roma addresses themes of love, loss, the miracle of children, and God's love for each of us. Her wonderful delivery and gorgeous Irish accent are highlights, and the musical arrangements and added vocals by Roma's special guests are really wonderful additions to a heart-felt treasure of an album! This album will touch your heart, and if you ever enjoyed Roma in Touched By An Angel, this is a must-own.

You may purchase Roma Downey's wonderful album by visiting:

HOPE AND HEALING
All of us need to take the time to be gentle with ourselves. Therefore, in the first issue of each month, Heartsong will include tips with which you can nurture, pamper and transform all aspects of your life. Enjoy!

"Solace for the Spirit: Creating Time for Your Spiritual Practice"

A friend and I were recently discussing the importance of spiritual growth within our lives. We lead quite different lifestyles, and yet, our spiritual fulfillment is very dear to each of us. "You know," she said with a sigh, "Sometimes there just don't seem to be enough hours in the day as it is. When I try to work in time for my own personal spiritual development, I always feel rushed and like there are some many other "practical" issues pressing in on me. It's hard!"

I can definitely understand where my friend was coming from, and have sometimes felt the same way myself. Perhaps you've felt like that yourself sometimes?

Here's what I would suggest for helping to make your spiritual routine an integral and beautiful part of your daily life. Try getting up half an hour to an hour earlier each morning. Devote this time to your spiritual growth; reading, prayer, reflection, meditation, etc. This way, you'll have the quiet early morning time to spend in communion with God, you won't have to rush, and you'll be able to create a special and sacred time every day to devote to your personal spiritual practice.

My friend of the earlier conversation tried this suggestion, and has been loving the results. "I feel so much clearer... so much more energized and serene all at the same time!" she enthused recently to me. Try it yourself, and begin making your spiritual practice a bigger and brighter part of your life. Good luck!

HOME AND HEARTH
In this section of the newsletter, I will provide tips to help you to bring your own creativity, spirituality and unique talents into your everyday life, and, more specifically, into your home.

Fairies Dancing

As a little girl, I always delighted in hearing stories my grandmother (Nanna) had created about the fairies. I use to amuse myself by making up wonderful and vivid tales of living with the fairies out in my yard and playing with them all day long, and then dancing merrily with them from sunset to sunrise!

As a matter of fact, thinking about these fairy stories is still really delightful and wonderful for me. I guess a part of me is still very much that vivid little girl who wants to spend her life dancing with the fairies. And the great news is, in my imagination... I can do exactly that!

What wonderful stories did you, or do you still, tell yourself? What makes your imagination go into happy overdrive? Enjoy your stories and imaginings...you're your inner child out to play! You'll be happier for doing it!

PRAYER FROM THE HEART
Each issue of Heartsong will feature a prayer, either from my own heart, one which I hold dear in my own life, or one suggested to me by others. I hope they will speak to your spirit, as well.

Omnipotent God, vitality of life,
Your strength supplies my motivation.
I am stirred in the path of Your Will.
Maintain my self-motivation to always
Search, find, examine, will and act
Upon the truths placed before me.
May I become a driving force for others,
Encouraging them to pick up their crosses
And follow the virtuous road of life.
I thank You for Your continued vigor
That coexists in my whole being,
My soul, my spirit and my body!

(Prayer for Self-motivation, from CatholicDoors.com)
